- I've just got back from the WOA at Hammersmith. The show was quite
- small (not that many exhibitors), but incredibly busy. I imagined
- there would hardly be anyone there, but you couldn't swing a cat in
- there. Found the level of interest in the Amiga very surprising. The
- most pleasant experience had to be the AT stand. They had 4 booths in
- the centre of the show including a small presentation theatre which
- had various things being shown during the afternoon (mostly Scala from
- what I saw). They also had a number of machines on display including
- the A4000T, various A1200 setups and, in the flesh, the Walker which,
- it must be said, looks even more like a vacuum cleaner in real life
- than it does in the photos on the web. I think this machine could
- probably grow on me though. There were a number of AT people there
- including some heavyweights who seemed quite happy to chat and answer
- questions, and all in all their attitude was very positive. There were
- lots of flyers for various Amiga products including the surfer pack,
- and AT are making a point of trumpeting the machine in a way that
- Commodore never did. The staff answering questions were very helpful
- too. In particular, one person I spoke to - the guy looking after the
- Walker, explained how AT were basically fed up with Escom UK for their
- pitiful attempts at marketing the Amiga. He also said that he expected
- the Walker to retail for 700 UKP. Personally I'd buy one at that
- price. Unlike some of the shots on the web, the machines there had
- nice black keyboards which go well with it.
-
- Also there was Digita, who seemed to be selling Wordworth 5 by the
- bucket load, showing that the Amiga productivity market is far from
- dead. There were a couple of places selling CD ROMs in seemingly large
- quantities - games publishers (if there are any left) take note.
-
- Oh, and there as a blast from the past was none other than Dave
- Pleasance promoting his music business. Hope he does well there.
-
- All in all a very upbeat show. Considerably more positive and well
- attended than I expected. Hopefully this is a good omen.
